FAQs
Q How strong are Suntiles?
A Made of UV stable polycarbonate, Suntiles can withstand great loading and forceful blows without damage. They are both strong and secure.
Q Do Suntiles get dirty?
A They are largely self-cleaning and should stay clear for at least 10 years.
Q Is there a Suntile to fit my roof?
A A wide range of Suntiles are available to fit roofs of all shapes and sizes. If in doubt, email us a picture of your tiles so we can identify them and let you know if there is a suitable Suntile.
Q Can anyone fit a Suntile?
A As with any work to be carried out at height, the right access equipment must be used. The person fitting the tile must be confident at height and able to carry out basic DIY tasks. Many customers ask a local roofing firm to fit the tiles for them.
Q How much light do they let in?
A To optimise performance, a Suntile should be placed in as much direct sunlight as possible. The ducts should be kept as straight and as short as possible, with the bend at the bottom as near to the diffuser as is practicable. Without an extension system, sunlight coming straight in can be 8 times stronger than if it came in through a window. If an extension kit is used, the sunlight can be intensified by the mirrored walls of the ducting.
Q How do Suntiles affect pests?
A Using Suntiles to brighten attics and lofts has been found to prevent the infestation of pests such as rats and squirrels.
Q How many Quick Kits will I need to light up my loft?
A Two well positioned Quick Kits will significantly light up an average 3 bedroom semi-detached loft space.
Q When I cut a hole in my underslating felt and fit my Suntile, will it leak?
A Suntiles are weatherproof. They are supplied with a secondary flashing that fits on the rear collar of the tile. When fitted correctly, even driven rain cannot get into the loft space.
Q Will I need planning permission?
A No. Although if you wish to use Suntiles in a Listed Building or one in a conservation area, you are advised to seek approval from a Planning Officer.
Q How long does it take for delivery?
A As long as the order is placed by 12 noon (Mon-Fri), most Suntiles can be delivered within 48 hours.
Q Is there a delivery charge per item I order?
A Multiple orders can be delivered in the same box, but there is a weight and size limit to this. We will be happy to discuss delivery charges when the order is placed.
Q Will Suntiles save me money?
A It is estimated that £60 a year is saved by installing a Suntile instead of an artificial light.
